YOUTH

Our Youth program is available for children ages five through thirteen.  Through our seven-level course, we offer students the opportunity to learn all four competitive strokes as well as life-saving skills (see level descriptions below).  We run four sessions of Youth classes: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall.  Classes are held Monday through Friday, 4-8pm, and weekends from 9am-2pm.  Students sign up for one 45-minute class per week, and attend eight classes per session.

Price: $168 for eight 45 minute lessons.

Level 1: Learning to swim                                   bsc 006 softened

What is accomplished in Level 1                                

In the training pool:                            

• Completely immersing under the water                             

• Blowing bubbles for 5-10 seconds

• Floating on front and back with the aid of a kick board

• Develop freestyle and backstroke kick with a board

 

Level 2: Basic Stroke Discovery

 Requirements: Students should be comfortable blowing bubbles underwater and immersing their whole head. Students should understand the basics of kicking.

What is accomplished in Level 2

In the training pool:

• Further strengthen freestyle and backstroke kicking with boards

• Unassisted floating

• Developing freestyle arm technique

 

Level 3: Stroke Discovery II

Requirements: Students should know how to float, and how to kick both freestyle and backstroke with a kickboard.

In the shallow well:

• Learn proper freestyle breathing technique

• Backstroke without kickboard

• Streamlining technique

 

Level 4: Stroke Discovery III

Requirements: Students should know how to perform  backstroke and side-breathing in  freestyle.

What is accomplished in Level 4                                                                              

In the shallow well:

• Jump in the pool, feet first

• Freestyle kick with the board across well

• Backstroke kick in streamline position across well

• Freestyle with one arm breathe every 2nd stroke across well

• Backstroke across well

 

Level 5: Intermediate

Requirements: Students should be able to swim side-breathing freestyle for one lap and backstroke one lap.

What is accomplished in Level 5

In the main pool:

• Freestyle kick 2 laps

• Backstroke kick 2 laps

• Learn alternate freestyle breathing

• Freestyle 2 laps

• Backstroke 2 laps

• Develop breaststroke

• Diving

 

Level 6: Advanced I

Requirements: Students should be able to swim breaststroke, swim freestyle and backstroke for 2 laps each, and perform a basic dive.

What is accomplished in Level 6

In the main pool:

• Freestyle kick 3 laps

• Backstroke kick 3 laps

• Breaststroke kick 1 lap

• Freestyle swim 2 laps

• Backstroke swim 2 laps

• Breaststroke swim 1 lap

• Advanced Diving

• Flip Turns

 

Level 7: Advanced II

Requirements: Students should be able to swim 1 lap of breaststroke, 2 laps of freestyle with a flip turn, and 2 laps of backstroke.

What is accomplished in Level 7

In the main pool:

• Freestyle 4 laps

• Backstroke 4 laps

• Breast stroke 2 laps

• Butterfly

• Flip turns

• Circle swimming
